Phillipine Holidays for 2010

According to my research on the Internet, we have many Philippine Holidays this year. Thanks to Republic Act 9492, which provides that non-religious holidays be moved to the nearest Monday, we have longer weekends allowing us more time to spend with family, friends or with our bed.

For those who want to travel this year, please check the following holidays so you can prepare for that much-awaited trip you always dreamed of.

Based on PGMA's Presidential Proclamation 184, these are the declared regular holidays, special (non-working) days and special holidays (for all schools) for the 2010. But please check with the local news for any changes or with your boss who might have other plans for you these holidays.

January 1 – New Year’s Day

April 1 – Maundy Thursday
April 2 – Good Friday
April 9 -Araw ng Kagitingan

May 1 – Labor Day
May 10- National elections

June 14 – Independence Day (supposedly June 12, in case you might get confused)
August 30 – National Heroes Day

November 29 – Bonifacio Day (supposedly November 30)

December 25 – Christmas Day
December 27 – Rizal Day (December 30).

The Special Holidays are as follows:

February 22 – EDSA Day (School Holidays)
August 23 – Ninoy Aquino Day

November 1 – All Saints Day

December 24 – Christmas Eve
December 31- Last day of the year

There are also holidays depending on the city where you work or study, like Quezon City Day which falls on August 19th, check the Net for such info or better yet check with your municipal office.

If the government wishes to declare holidays for special purposes like a death of a political or religious leader, in the middle of a disaster, a storm, national emergencies, it will be announced in every news channel so be sure to check the local news program once in a while.

Go make that holiday worthwhile, not stay in bed wishing for it to last forever. Plan that holiday dream now, may it be just finishing a book you have been reading for years, go out of town or meet your high school friends whom you have not seen since high school graduation.

Dreaming is the first step, Planning is next.

Happy Holidays!
